Smallfish Records - site migration (Windows/ASP → Linux/PHP)

Project
site migration (Windows/ASP → Linux/PHP) (August 2007)
Client
Smallfish Records
My role
technical architect, web developer

Redesigned this site and moved it from the Windows platform to Linux, keeping all workflow of the small company intact, then gradually took over content management from an old MS-Access-based tool so it's now completely online. So is the accounting, mailing lists, weight-based postage, order management, and so on. To finish things off, I migrated their old and insecure online payments system to Paypal.

  • migrated entire website from Windows/IIS/ASP/MSSQL to LAMP
  • object-oriented PHP 5, Mysql 3 (!)
  • Daily updates via script from Microsoft Access database export
  • Bespoke content-management system gradually replacing scripted updates
  • Paypal integration
  • Designed mostly by Mike Oliver

*note: Smallfish ceased operations in 2010.
