M-Audio Triggerfinger - my thoughts

M-Audio Triggerfinger (classic)
Here are a few thoughts about the TriggerFinger.

  • Probably the cheapest 4-fader (non-motorised) surface you can adapt for Pro Tools.
  • Reasurring weight, although made of plastic.
  • Good sensitive pads (it's no Akai though).
  • Far better expression than with a MIDI keyboard.
  • Programmable and easy to operate.
  • Sliders' caps are too easy to lift and remove accidentally shoot across the room.
  • Too much branding for my taste. Could look better.
  • No blue lights. Yay!!

I wish they sold it with its own power supply so I don't need to allocate a separate USB port for it (use via MIDI) but hey. The pads themselves barely move when touched/hit. I love the 4 control buttons just above the sliders - fast and responsive - i wish the pads had some of that feeling. Anyway.

Edit: A few years down the line, the abysmal Enigma editor doesn't really work with OSX 10.9+. Luckily the surface can be programmed via the built-in functions.
