I worked on these touchscreen exhibits that run on the 12" iPad Pro augmented by RFID sensors, and were installed in the newly opened Design Museum space in Kensington, London.

The choice of technologies allowed late changes and also survived a full iOS version jump mid-project, without any difference. The beauty of developing for specific hardware is that it takes away uncertainties about technology, and allows full access to state of the art development for the device in question. With iOS it also meant pulling all stops while keeping things native:

  • RFID interaction with physical objects, interfaced via Phidgets and a custom API
  • html5, css, native ES6 javascript, media queries, native promises
  • fullscreen h264 video with seamless transitions to html content

In 2018 the project was updated to simplify the experience, offer multiple interactive exhibits on the same device, and add a new customised interactive for Jaguar Land Rover.
