online multiplayer game (May 2019)

My role
procedural audio

Vehikill is a networked physics realtime multiplayer demolition derby browser game.

I created the procedural audio engine sound models for each vehicle, using realtime synthesis and web audio graph nodes. The models are deliberately simplified to keep the engine light on CPU (in a full arena there are 16 complete positional audio models).

I also provided placeholder sound effects for collisions, explosions, etc, pending an extended sound design pass.

Additionally I modelled a unique arena reverb implementing algorithmic ideas from 1960s research, tweaked for modern sound. That didn't make it to the online version.

Tools used:

  • Eurorack modular for prototyping
  • Reaktor for prototyping
  • IntelliJ WebStorm
  • Pro Tools
  • AudioFinder
  • Designing Sound book by Andy Farnell
