With nearly a thousand sailors to feed, HMS Belfast produced food on an industrial scale. The ranges cooked all day, making meals such as roast beef with potatoes and sticky toffee pudding.

For this exhibition at the galley onboard HMS Belfast, Clay prepared interactive exhibits to tell visitors about the industrial appliances used toprepare food for the ship's crew.

My role was to recreate the sounds of the fryer, peeler, mixer, and coppers, which were used on the ship, and which can be seen at the exhibition. With creative channel mapping typical for exhibitions and galleries, the sound collages mix foley, ambience, and historical footage to immerse the visitor. Needless to say, historical accuracy was central, down to the lids, latches, motor sounds, and so on. We also threw in some fun custard splats, dangerous fires, and broken mixer attachment sounds.
