There is no video

#

When did making music videos become standard? Some music is hard enough to compose or arrange to also necessitate a music video. And in any case, who ever has the extra attention to take in visuals in addition to sound that asks of its listener?

Looking back at the history of music videos, their designation as promotional material is very clear.

Perhaps unsurprising then that, as someone raised on the luxury of 90s romantic Mtv culture when videos to great music tracks had creative narratives and high storytelling values, I now find most music videos unsatisfying.

This isn't to say that there aren't creative people out there with whom I'd love to collaborate on a visual project; merely that for | |, I won't join in the noisy "has to have video" movement of redundant imagery.
